Hon. Colonial Secretary,

I attach a copy of a letter from the Daily Press

of today's date. I understand that the China Mail published the same letter, as did the South China Morning Post, with the exception of the insult to His Excellency,

As & Civil Servant, I am debarred from defending myself against a charge, the ridiculous nature of which anyone who knows the Assistant District Officer's (South) work will

recognise. I therefore ask that the Government will take steps to obtain an apology from the Editors for having printed

such a letter. Or alternatively, allow me to proceed for

libel.

Mr Eldon Potter wishes to state that as the

writer with his usual inaccuracy has referred to him as District

Officer, he wishes to associate himself with my protest.

(sd.) E. W. Hamilton.

Asst. District Officer (South).,

19. 7, 18,
